Before you read any further, click here to take a big step back to a few months ago when I first introduced you to Karl & Kristina. They were the adorable couple who cos-played (costume played) their love story based on the Japanese anime series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
“It was one of the things Karl and I had in common when we first met each other,” Kristina wrote to me, “Aside from liking the series itself, we both identified with the main characters because their personalities and relationship dynamics mirrored ours. Haruhi (the girl) is bossy and impulsive while Kyon (the guy) is sarcastic but goes along with her plans to keep her happy! Our cake toppers are actually mini-figurines of the said characters, and some of the reception music might even come from the series!”
I absolutely adore that both of them injected so much of their personalities into their celebration, and they executed their Japanese theme insanely well – complete with samurai sword umbrellas and paper cranes. The guys were also inspired by the unifying strength of the Green Lantern Corps and together wore their power rings and shirts. But cool things aside, what I hope you see through this small collection of frames is a boy and girl truly, madly and deeply in love. Expressing their strong bond and sharing it in a way that means something to them.
The pinnacle of the night was at the end of Kristina’s speech. Surprising Karl and all those in the room, she sang to her husband his favourite love song – translated to English especially for the occasion. Not a single eye remained dry as she sang her heart out, not even mine. And so in between wiping away my own tears so that I could focus on taking photos, I realised that I had just been blessed enough to witness a special moment between newly joined husband & wife.
