At last week’s Ku-ring-gai Council Festival on the Green, the amazingly talented aerial performers from Brophy’s Circus Carousel left the audience in complete awe. High in the skies above St Ive’s Village Green was the circus rig against the most gorgeous blue sky backdrop I have seen in a long time! I just couldn’t resist posting a few shots here for you to see!

I just can’t wait to photograph Nicky & Hui’s wedding in September this year. Not only are they a super cute couple – they are so much fun to work with! We spent a couple of hours together at La Perouse last weekend in the incredibly kind sun.

At the end of our shoot, Nicky wanted to let her hair down and have some fun in at nearby Congwong Beach. After much hesitation and coaxing, Hui finally agreed! We made the short stroll down to the water and had a run around as the tide came in. The light was perfect. The mood was perfect. It was just all, so very perfect.

On the way back to my car at the end of our awesomely fun session together, we bumped into a group of photographers with a bridal party. I could not resist capturing the following sight…. After having just taken a photo of the bride & groom sharing an ice-cream, these photographers decided they didn’t want to miss out on all that creamy goodness. True dedication to the job!

When I first sat with Julia & Nathan for coffee one morning to talk about what they wanted in a wedding photographer Julia looked at me and said “You. I like your style. I like your photos. You’re fun. Let’s just book it in already.” (I might be paraphrasing a tiny bit… but that was the general gist of it!). I knew that this was not going to be any old, ordinary wedding… these two are completely head over heels for each other – and that’s exactly the way I like it. Relaxed and easy-going, letting the day be centred around the fact that they were to be married and not getting too carried away with insignificant details or formalities. Just to give you a small glimpse of how their minds and hearts work – part of their wedding budget was instead used towards establishing & paying for a teacher in an African school for the next year.

So, without any more delay, I present to you the wedding story of Julia & Nathan… Congratulations, friends!

wedding | andrew & rhiannon | st stephens anglican church, newtown

It was back in 2008 when I first met Andrew one night at Kuleto’s Cocktail Bar in Newtown. Rhiannon was one of my good friends from undergrad and as we sat there sipping on Chocolate Toblerones during a Happy Hour post-exam celebration, silence swept the table as Rhiannon got up to get her new boyfriend from outside. We waited in anticipation. A few moments later a tall dark shadow emerged in the door way – and after exchanging pleasantries with the rest of those at the table, he sat beside me and we began talking. He turned out to be one of the nicest and kindest men that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. From that night it was clear that Andrew & Rhiannon were one incredibly cute & perfect couple.

Three years later, and Andrew & Rhiannon have tied the knot! It was such an honour to photograph their wedding day – we had so much fun! Here we have a girl who lived most of her early years in Mexico, marrying the man of her dreams, the Italian stallion, in the heart of Sydney, Australia. Brace yourselves for the beautiful story that is about to unfold….

surprise | shristi comes home for christmas!

In April this year, one of my closest friends decided to backpack solo around the world. Of course it was sad to see Shristi go, but it was to be an unmatched experience that saw her travel through the Americas, Europe & Asia for an entire year.

Fast forward to two months ago – while catching up over Skype one morning, we jokingly began talking of how awesome it would be if she were to fly back to Sydney to surprise her family for Christmas. Christmas was always a very special time for her family and it just wouldn’t be the same without her. In fact, her mother promised her before she left that upon her return, she would hold a Christmas feast to make up for the one she was going to miss out on in December. It was clear to me at this point, that we both had to do whatever we could to help make Christmas for Shristi and her family possible. So the planning began! And before we knew it, Shristi had a return ticket from Shanghai to Sydney so she could spend Christmas, New Years AND her younger sister’s birthday in Sydney, before returning to continue her travels.

Shristi arrived yesterday morning, December 23rd – two days out from Christmas. It was completely surreal. Here she was, back home, her family and friends completely oblivious to the fact. We had to wait for a few hours before I could take her home because her parents were both still at work. It wasn’t hard for her to decide what she wanted to do to pass the time – she screamed with excitement and almost broke down into tears when she suddenly realised she could finally eat at her favourite Thai place in Newtown for lunch, and indulge in coffee and chocolate at Max Brenner! So that, we did.

Finally the time came for us to surprise her parents and sister (and for her to meet the new puppy that they had acquired in her absence!). To be completely sure they were all home, when we were about two streets away from her house, I had her Skype her parents (without video of course!). The conversation was short lived – she pretended the signal was poor and told them she would call back in a few moments in the hope that the signal would be better.

Instead of calling back, we drove up to the house, walked up the driveway and she knocked on the front door….

I love Christmas, and I love that Christmas can bring families together in complete happiness and joy. Exactly how it should be! It is an extremely powerful time of the year. I wish you all a very safe and blessed Christmas.

engagement | jhinno & angelica

The beautiful thing about my job is that I’m lucky enough to share in the love between two people, almost as soon as I’m privileged enough to meet them. Jhinno & Angelica were no exception.

John, a long-time friend, emailed me a couple of weeks ago to ask if I would be available to photograph his older brother’s upcoming wedding. Unfortunately, I was already booked for the date of their big day. Not to be defeated, they were still eager to venture out on one of the coldest, windiest and wettest Summer weekends I have ever seen in Sydney (where has the sun disappeared to?!) for a photo shoot to mark the occasion! What followed was an afternoon of laughter and fun – and awesome photos to boot! When a couple own matching watches, you know that you’re in for a good time!

Sienna was baptised last weekend and I was lucky to be there to share in the celebrations! Coinciding with her first birthday, her proud parents Dragana and Stan, did not cut any corners when it came to spoiling their third & youngest daughter! Taking place in front of family & friends at St George’s Greek Orthodox Church at Rosebay, the deeply spiritual and traditional service was followed by even greater festivities at Botany Bay Seafood Restaurant, with Greek dancing and all! Unfortunately no plate-smashing followed.

anniversary | john & laura | palm beach

John and Laura flew from their US Army Base to Sydney, Australia to celebrate their three year wedding anniversary. They both had dreamed of the day that they would visit Australia and get the chance to swim with sharks, dive the Great Barrier Reef and indulge in Sydney’s finest red meats (I took them to I’m Angus Steakhouse and Hurricane’s Bar & Grill!). Laura contacted me a few months ago to tell me that she dreamed of a Sydney Beach Photo shoot with her husband. They had lost half of their wedding photos due to an inexperienced photographer losing a hard drive and not having a backup. It was up to me to show them the best time I could – and well, I’ll let the photos speak for themselves!

I love that my job allows me to meet people from across the world – I now have two amazing friends in the US and we’re already planning on what shenanigans we’ll get up to when I visit!

Alison & Nick are absolute sweethearts! I remember when I first met them for coffee to discuss their wedding photography options, and the excitement and love they had for each other simply oozed from their pores! There was an incredible classic vintage feel to the entire celebration – complete with pocket watch and top hat! Their rings inscribed with special little devotions. We were lucky with great weather, and as usual, Parramatta Park did not disappoint!

I love black & white photography – it adds a deeper perspective to the day that I feel fits perfectly with Alison & Nick’s personalities and vision!

event | ku-ring-gai twilight concert | wahroonga park

Last night was the second of two annual Twilight Concerts held in Wahroonga Park by the great people over at Ku-ring-gai Council. After the unfortunate cancellation of the first concert mid-way through due to heavy rain and thunder, it was great to see so many people out for the second instalment in what was, perfect concert weather! The Endless Summer Beach Party Band got the crowd warmed up to timeless classics, in preparation for the main act – Boys In The Band with The HighRollers. Age was no barrier when it came to rocking it out to boy band classics from the Jackson Five, Beetles, Bee Gees and Backstreet Boys! Entertainer and Master of Ceremonies, David Malek, kept the night alive and flowing and the night would not have happened at all if it wasn’t for John & the crew from Mobile Stage Trucks and major sponsor Keith Soames! A great night was had by all! Congratulations to the girls from Ku-ring-gai Council for putting on such a spectacular show!
